Your journey to the Langtang Valley begins with your arrival in Kathmandu, Nepal’s vibrant capital. Upon landing at Tribhuvan International Airport, a Chingu Treks and Tours representative will greet you and transfer you to your hotel. After check-in, the rest of the day is yours to rest and explore the city. You might want to wander through the lively streets of Thamel, visit local cafes, or purchase any last-minute trekking gear. In the evening, you will enjoy a welcome dinner with your fellow trekkers and your guide, where the itinerary and trekking plans will be reviewed.
Today, we leave the bustling city of Kathmandu and head toward Syabrubesi, the starting point of our trek. The 7-8 hour drive offers spectacular views of the countryside, terraced fields, and distant mountains. Along the way, we’ll cross the Trishuli River and pass through small villages nestled in the foothills of the Himalayas. Upon arrival in Syabrubesi, a small village on the edge of the Langtang National Park, we will settle into a local lodge and rest for the night, ready to begin our trek the following day.
The trek officially begins as we leave Syabrubesi and follow the trail through dense forests of bamboo, oak, and rhododendron. Along the way, we cross several small streams and waterfalls as we steadily ascend the valley. The trail is gentle, taking about 6 hours to reach Lama Hotel, a small settlement located along the Langtang River. After settling into our lodge, you can enjoy the serene surroundings and enjoy the sounds of the river as you relax and prepare for the next day’s trek.
Today’s trek takes us deeper into the Langtang Valley as we ascend through beautiful forests, crossing several small bridges and passing yak herders' huts. The trail gradually opens up, and the majestic views of the Langtang Lirung (7,227 m) and other surrounding peaks begin to dominate the landscape. After a 7-hour trek, we arrive at Langtang Village, a traditional Sherpa village located at 3,430 meters. Langtang is known for its vibrant local culture, and we will stay overnight here, enjoying local cuisine and the peaceful atmosphere of the valley.
Today’s trek is relatively short but rewarding, as we ascend towards Kyanjin Gompa, the highest point of our trek. The trail follows the river and gradually climbs through yak pastures, with spectacular views of Langtang Lirung and the surrounding peaks. After approximately 3 hours of hiking, we reach Kyanjin Gompa, a sacred Buddhist monastery nestled at 3,870 meters. The village is surrounded by glaciers, and you’ll have time to explore the area, enjoy the views, and visit the local monastery. This day also serves as an acclimatization day, allowing your body to adjust to the altitude.
Today, we embark on a challenging but highly rewarding hike to Tserko Ri, a ridge that offers some of the best panoramic views in the Langtang Valley. The 8-9 hour round-trip trek takes us to an altitude of 5,000 meters, where we are rewarded with breathtaking views of Langtang Lirung, Langtang Ri, and several other peaks in the Langtang range. After soaking in the stunning mountain vistas, we descend back to Kyanjin Gompa for a restful evening. This day is an excellent opportunity to take in the grandeur of the Himalayas from an incredible vantage point.
After a fulfilling stay in Kyanjin Gompa, we begin our descent back down the valley. The trek today is mostly downhill, passing through the same beautiful forests and pastures, but with the advantage of being able to enjoy the scenery in reverse. After approximately 6-7 hours of hiking, we reach Lama Hotel, where we’ll spend the night and reflect on the breathtaking trek we’ve just completed. The evening is free to relax and prepare for the final leg of our journey back.
Today, we complete the last leg of our trek, descending from Lama Hotel back to Syabrubesi. The trail is mostly downhill, passing through familiar forests and villages. After about 6-7 hours of trekking, we reach Syabrubesi, where we started our adventure. This is your chance to relax and take in the tranquil atmosphere of the village one last time. You can also visit the local shops to pick up some souvenirs or enjoy a final dinner with your trekking team.
We bid farewell to the mountains and drive back to Kathmandu. The journey takes approximately 8-9 hours, and along the way, you can enjoy the scenic views of terraced fields, rivers, and small villages. Upon arrival in Kathmandu, you will be transferred to your hotel for some rest and relaxation. The evening is free for you to explore more of Kathmandu or indulge in some last-minute shopping.

The Langtang Valley Trek is one of Nepal’s most rewarding trekking experiences, offering stunning views of the Himalayas, beautiful landscapes, and rich cultural experiences. Located in the Langtang National Park, the trek takes you through lush forests, charming Tamang villages, and alpine meadows, with views of peaks like Langtang Lirung, Ganesh Himal, and other Himalayan giants. The trek is known for its accessibility, making it a great option for trekkers seeking a shorter yet immersive adventure in the Nepalese mountains.
The Langtang Valley Trek usually takes about 7 to 10 days, depending on the route, pace, and acclimatization days included in the itinerary. The trek begins with a drive from Kathmandu to the village of Syabrubesi, which is the starting point of the trek, and ends in the same place. From Syabrubesi, trekkers hike through the beautiful valley to the Kyanjin Gompa, the final destination.
The Langtang Valley Trek is considered moderate in terms of difficulty. While it doesn’t reach extreme altitudes like some other treks in Nepal, it still requires a good level of fitness due to long days of walking, particularly as you ascend through steep terrain. Trekkers should have some previous hiking experience, though the trek is accessible for people in good physical condition who are accustomed to walking for several hours each day. Adequate acclimatization is crucial to avoid altitude sickness.
The best seasons to trek in the Langtang Valley are during the pre-monsoon (spring) season, from March to May, and post-monsoon (autumn) season, from September to November. During these months, the weather is typically stable with clear skies, and the mountain views are spectacular. Summer (June to August) sees heavy monsoon rains, which can make the trails slippery, while winter (December to February) is cold, but offers a peaceful and quieter trekking experience.
For the Langtang Valley Trek, you will need two permits: the Langtang National Park Permit and the TIMS (Trekkers' Information Management System) card. These permits are required to enter the Langtang region and can be arranged through Chingu Treks and Tours as part of your trek package.
The trek starts with a scenic 6-8 hour drive from Kathmandu to Syabrubesi, the gateway village to Langtang Valley. While some trekkers opt for a private vehicle, there are also local buses that run from Kathmandu to Syabrubesi. Chingu Treks and Tours can arrange transportation for you, ensuring a comfortable and safe ride.
While it is possible to trek the Langtang Valley independently, we highly recommend hiring a guide and porter through Chingu Treks and Tours. A guide will not only ensure you are following the correct route but also enrich your experience with local knowledge and cultural insights. A porter will help carry your luggage, leaving you with just a light daypack, making the trek much more comfortable.
Altitude sickness is a potential concern for any trek that exceeds 3,000 meters (9,843 feet), and the Langtang Valley Trek reaches a maximum elevation of around 3,800 meters (12,500 feet) at Kyanjin Ri. However, the trek is relatively gradual, and acclimatization days are built into the itinerary to help reduce the risk. Our experienced guides at Chingu Treks and Tours are trained to recognize the symptoms of altitude sickness and can help manage it effectively. Staying hydrated, avoiding overexertion, and following the itinerary’s gradual ascent are key to avoiding altitude sickness.
Accommodation on the Langtang Valley Trek is provided in teahouses and lodges along the route. These are basic but comfortable, typically offering rooms with beds and shared bathrooms. The teahouses provide hot meals, and the atmosphere is friendly and welcoming. The higher you go, the more basic the facilities may become, but they are sufficient to make your trekking experience enjoyable.
You will need to pack for varying temperatures, from warmer conditions in the lower valleys to cold temperatures at higher altitudes. Essential items include trekking boots, a good sleeping bag, layers of clothing, a waterproof jacket, a hat, gloves, and a camera. Don’t forget a headlamp, sunscreen, and your personal medications. A detailed packing list will be provided to you by Chingu Treks and Tours to ensure you have everything you need for a safe and enjoyable trek.
The Langtang Valley Trek is generally safe, especially when trekking with a reputable company like Chingu Treks and Tours. Our guides are trained in first aid and emergency protocols, and we prioritize your safety throughout the journey. We keep track of weather forecasts and trail conditions to ensure the safest possible experience. The region was affected by the 2015 earthquake, but recovery efforts have restored the trails and teahouses, making the area safe for trekking again.
